Frösi is back
Frösi was a comic in the former GDR. Actually I can't remember it as it was given up since it wasn't a succes after the german reunion. But I'm glad to see old things having a come back.
Anyway it's original name was "Fröhlich sein und singen", which means "being happy and sing", when it was released the first time in the 1950s. In 1965 on "Frösi" which is just an abbreviation of the original name became the official name.
Frösi was a mixture of comics, reports, documentations, making instructions, entertainment, propaganda and even demanding contents. There were early computer courses and making instructions like "we're making a tank".
The puplishing company wants to start with a circulation of 70 000, in the former GDR they had a circulation of 700 000! The first issue will be released on April 29th. To make it a success they even hired two of the former editors. They plan to bring it up to date too, but if you have a look on their homepage you can imagine in which direction they're going. There're comic characters like Alwin, Atomino and Käpt'n Lütt which for elder readers from the eastern part of Germany are the same like Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Fix & Foxy or Lupo. Corresponding to this Frösi will be available in the eastern part of Germany only. The rest of Germany can still get it as a subscription.Another comic which is going to have it's revival is "Fix & Foxi", it is planed to have its come back in fall 2005.
